Every Tuesday my son goes with my mom to a local retirement community. It started as a something to do for fun, but has turned into something so much more.
Apparently a few of the residents now await each Tuesday afternoon in anticipation to see their little friend.
I am so happy and proud that my son is getting a chance to bring someone joy and love even if he isn't aware of what he is doing.
I hope this is something that will instill important values such as compassion, love, charity, and service. I hope he continues to enjoy these visits, and that he will continue to do them when he gets of an age to understand.
He waves, and "chats" in his own language to anyone who will listen. He plays with their wheelchairs and walkers, and entertains them with his smile, laughter and youthful appeal. He walks the halls like the owns the joint.
My son who is 1 and a half years old has done more compassionate service for his fellow man than I have done while he has been alive.
I know we teach our little children, but in this case he has been the one to teach me.
